Provider-entered allowance, rate, and rounding

Hosting bandwidth overage calculator

Estimate a possible hosting transfer overage charge from your provider's allowance, measured usage, overage rate, and charge increment. No provider fees are prefilled.

Estimate a possible transfer overage charge from your provider's own allowance, usage measurement, rate, and rounding rule. Enter values from the same billing period and in decimal GB. This is arithmetic based on your inputs, not a quote.

Enter all four values and calculate.

Method and assumptions

Excess transfer = max(0, measured transfer − included allowance). If the provider charges exact excess, enter a zero increment. If the provider rounds excess up in blocks, enter the block size; chargeable transfer is rounded up to the next whole block. Modeled charge = chargeable transfer × your entered rate per GB.

Use the provider's stated transfer unit, billing window, included amount, metering scope, rate, and rounding rules. This worksheet uses decimal GB (1 GB = 1,000 MB) and assumes the entered rate applies uniformly to the rounded chargeable amount. It cannot determine what a provider counts as transfer or whether an allowance resets monthly, annually, or on another billing cycle.

Check the actual terms

Hosting companies define transfer measurement and overage policies differently; some plans may throttle, suspend, or handle excess usage another way. Check the selected plan's current policy, account usage dashboard, and invoice. Cloudflare's billing documentation is an example of service-specific usage billing: it says some products use metered billing, that included usage and rates vary by product, and that its billable-usage view follows the account billing cycle. Those details describe Cloudflare products and should not be generalized to web-host transfer charges.

The result excludes subscription fees, taxes, currency conversion, discounts, minimum fees, caps, rounding of money, and any traffic category not represented in your inputs. If your provider uses tiers, a free allowance by product, burst rates, or a non-linear formula, reproduce those rules separately instead of relying on this single-rate estimate.

How it works

Enter the included transfer, measured usage, provider rate per chargeable GB, and charge increment in GB (zero means exact excess). Use the same provider billing period and units. The calculator shows excess, rounded chargeable transfer, and a modeled charge; it is not a provider quote.

Good to know

How does the calculator handle rounding?

A zero charge increment uses the exact excess transfer. A positive increment rounds excess transfer up to the next multiple of that increment before multiplying by your entered per-GB rate. Check whether your provider uses this rule.

Does it know my hosting provider's allowance or rate?

No. You must enter values from the exact plan and billing period. Providers may define transfer, included allowances, billing cycles, and overage rules differently.

Is the result the amount on my bill?

No. It is arithmetic from your inputs. Taxes, fees, tiers, caps, plan changes, and provider-specific metering are not modeled; check your account usage and invoice.
