Website Hosting Cost Tools

This comparison is for one small informational website over a 36-month planning horizon. It contrasts a prebuilt static site deployed to Cloudflare Pages with a conventional shared-hosting account running WordPress. It does not compare measured speed, uptime, support quality, or every host. These are different operating models: static publishing needs generated files and a deployment workflow; WordPress runs an application with PHP and a database.

Best fit in this comparisonA brochure, documentation, or other site that can be built into static files and does not need server-side behavior on each request.A site that needs the WordPress dashboard, PHP plugins, a database, or dynamic server-side features.

Hosting price exampleCloudflare documents static asset requests as free and unlimited on Pages Free and paid plans. That is not a claim that domains, build tooling, or optional dynamic services are free.Bluehost listed $3.99/month for a 36-month introductory term ($143.64 before tax) and $9.99/month on a 36-month renewal term ($359.64 before tax), checked November 3, 2026.
Material limits or requirementsThe current Pages limits page lists up to 20,000 files per site and 25 MiB per asset on Free, and 500 builds per month. Pages Functions use Workers quotas and pricing.WordPress needs a supported PHP and database environment plus HTTPS. Check plan storage, backups, email, resource policies, and renewal terms against your own workload.
Work you operateGenerate the static site, maintain its source and build, and redeploy when content changes. Forms, login, search, or other dynamic features need a compatible external service or code.Maintain WordPress, themes and plugins; manage backups and updates; and check that the host’s documented services meet the site’s needs.

What the dated cost snapshot says

For a static-only Pages deployment, Cloudflare says requests to static assets are free and unlimited. The cost of a custom domain is separate, as are any tools or services you choose for building, email, forms, or other functions. If you add Pages Functions, Cloudflare says they count toward Workers request quotas. Its Workers paid plan starts at $5 per month; that is an optional dynamic-compute example, not a required Pages hosting fee.

Bluehost’s public US pricing page showed Starter at $3.99 per month for a 36-month initial term and $9.99 per month for a 36-month renewal term. Multiplication gives $143.64 for the initial hosting term and $359.64 for a separate renewal term, before tax and optional items. The renewal amount is not added to the introductory term. Promotions, currency, taxes, included extras, and available terms can vary; confirm the full checkout amount and renewal notice for your location.

These figures are not a full 36-month total-cost verdict. The Pages figure covers static asset requests only; the Bluehost figures cover hosting terms only. Both approaches may have domain renewal and other costs, while the time and technical work differ. Use the static site versus WordPress cost calculator to enter your own domain, hosting, maintenance, and time assumptions in one currency.

Choose by required behavior first

  1. List the behavior your site needs: editorial updates, comments, forms, user accounts, checkout, search, scheduled jobs, or server-side integrations.
  2. If the site can be generated as static files, check that the build produces the URLs, redirects, headers, and assets you need. Test a deploy preview and a rollback before moving a live domain.
  3. If you need WordPress itself or PHP/database features, compare the exact shared-hosting plan’s software versions, storage, backups, email, and limits. WordPress.org recommends PHP 8.3+, MariaDB 10.11+ or MySQL 8.0+, and HTTPS.
  4. Price the same domain, email, backups, paid add-ons, migration work, and renewal period on both sides. Keep prepaid introductory billing separate from future renewal commitments.
  5. Test content editing and recovery using a copy of the site. A static deployment changes the publishing workflow; it does not automatically reproduce WordPress comments, forms, admin routes, or plugins.

Cloudflare Pages product note

Cloudflare’s Pages overview currently says Workers supports most Pages use cases and recommends Workers for new projects. Pages documentation still describes Git-connected builds, direct uploads, static asset delivery, and Functions. If you are starting now, compare the current Workers static-assets workflow with Pages before committing to a deployment process; do not assume product names, limits, or migration paths will remain fixed.
