Browser-local sitemap review
Compare two XML sitemap URL sets
Compare two pasted XML sitemap urlsets to list added, removed, duplicate, and invalid URL entries. No sitemap or page is fetched.
Paste two XML sitemap <urlset> files to compare their page URL entries in this browser. The worksheet lists URLs added to the newer set and URLs removed from it; it does not fetch sitemaps, crawl pages, or check index status.
Paste an older and a newer XML urlset, then compare.
How comparison works
- The worksheet reads each direct
<url>entry and its<loc>value from an XML<urlset>. Paste child URL-set files when your sitemap is an index file. - URLs must be absolute HTTP or HTTPS URLs. The browser URL parser normalizes each URL before matching; path and query values remain part of the comparison.
- Duplicate URL entries are reported for each input. Added and removed lists compare unique normalized URLs, so duplicates do not inflate those counts.
- Invalid XML, unsupported roots, duplicate or missing
<loc>values, and invalid URLs stop the comparison to avoid presenting a partial result as complete.
This checks only the text supplied. A URL appearing in a sitemap does not establish that it is crawlable, indexable, canonical, or indexed. Review sitemap submission and page status separately in Search Console.

How it works
Paste older and newer XML urlset files. The worksheet parses each URL entry locally, normalizes absolute HTTP(S) locations with the browser URL parser, and reports additions, removals, and duplicates. It does not fetch sitemaps, crawl pages, or check index status.
Good to know
Can I paste a sitemap index?
This worksheet compares urlset files, not sitemap index files. Paste the child urlset XML documents separately. It does not fetch child sitemaps.
Does a URL in the sitemap mean it is indexed?
No. This is a text comparison of the pasted files. Check crawlability, canonical selection, and indexing separately in Google Search Console.
How are URLs matched?
Each absolute HTTP or HTTPS loc is normalized by the browser URL parser, then compared as a complete URL. Path and query values remain part of the comparison; different paths or queries are treated as different URLs.
