Website Hosting Cost Tools

This comparison method covers one small informational WordPress site over its first 36 months. It uses Bluehost’s US-dollar Starter listings as a dated example because the provider publishes both shared hosting and Managed WordPress plan details. The figures are a snapshot, not a quote or a claim that one hosting type is universally better.

One provider’s entry plans, checked November 3, 2026

Bluehost’s public shared-hosting and WordPress-hosting pages each list a Starter option at $3.99 per month on a 36-month introductory term and $9.99 per month on a 36-month renewal term. Both pages list 10 GB NVMe storage and weekly website backups. The shared page lists 24/7 chat support and says phone support is not included; the WordPress page describes 24/7 WordPress support and also says phone support is not included. Check what the support channel covers for your issue before you buy.

The first 36-month hosting subtotal in this snapshot is $143.64 for either listing before taxes and optional items. The $359.64 renewal subtotal is a separate future 36-month term; it is shown so the next commitment is visible, and is not added to the first-term total. The public listings describe overlapping entry-level features, so this snapshot does not establish that Managed WordPress includes more storage, more frequent backups, or better support for this workload. Bluehost’s backup help page describes account-size and inode qualifications and notes that some shared backup cycles may overlap; confirm backup coverage and restore terms for your account.

How to compare the plans you can actually buy

  1. Keep the workload fixed: one informational WordPress site, one region and currency, no store, and the same expected storage use.
  2. At checkout, record the full upfront price and exact introductory term. Multiply the displayed monthly equivalent by the billed months only when the provider confirms that is how it charges.
  3. Record the renewal price and renewal term separately. For a 36-month first-term comparison, show the upcoming renewal as a separate commitment rather than adding it to the initial 36-month total.
  4. Compare written backup frequency, retention, restore access and exclusions. A backup feature label alone does not describe retention or guarantee recovery; keep an independent copy of important site data.
  5. Compare storage amount and type as listed, then check whether the provider counts files, databases, email or backups against that quota.
  6. Compare support channel, published availability and the kinds of WordPress or account issues it covers. A support label does not measure response time or resolution quality.
  7. Leave speed, uptime and support-quality conclusions out unless you have comparable independent measurements for the same workload and period.

What this 36-month view leaves out

This hosting-only example excludes domain renewal, email, taxes, paid backups, migration, plugins, themes, labor and provider price changes. The same published promotional monthly rate may require a specific prepaid term and eligibility. Verify your actual checkout total and renewal notice. For your own domain and hosting assumptions, use the website cost calculator; for a separate introductory-versus-renewal example across providers, see the shared hosting cost method.
