Account quota scenario · measured storage change

Hosting storage runway calculator

Estimate months until an entered hosting storage quota is reached if measured monthly account usage change continued unchanged. No provider limit or growth rate is assumed.

Estimate when a measured account storage reading would meet a quota if its recent monthly change continued unchanged. This is a straight-line scenario from your own measurements, not a prediction of future uploads or a provider status check.

Enter current use, the applicable quota, and measured monthly change.

How to measure and read the result

  1. Take at least two account storage readings at known dates, using the same account dashboard and the same scope. Calculate average change as (later used storage − earlier used storage) ÷ elapsed months.
  2. Use the quota shown for the specific plan and account. Confirm whether the provider counts databases, email, backups, staging, or other files and whether its displayed usage is delayed.
  3. Compare current usage with quota. If growth is positive and the account is below quota, the worksheet divides remaining capacity by the entered average monthly growth. It reports the crossing estimate in months and the first whole month at or beyond it.

At zero or negative measured growth, the tool reports that the recent measurements do not imply a future quota crossing. If current use already meets or exceeds quota, it says so regardless of the growth input. Decimal GB are used throughout.

A linear continuation can be misleading: new uploads, backups, logs, caches, email retention, cleanup, or plan changes can change the trend. Repeat measurements over a representative period and keep a buffer; this tool does not decide what buffer is safe. It does not inspect your host, account for provider rounding, or determine consequences of reaching a limit.

The backup space estimator handles repeated full copies separately; check whether your provider counts those copies against this account quota.

How it works

Enter current account storage used, the quota for that account, and average monthly change calculated from dated readings with the same scope. The result is a straight-line scenario only; it does not predict future uploads or inspect your provider account.

Good to know

How do I calculate average monthly change?

Subtract an earlier storage reading from a later reading taken from the same account view, then divide by elapsed months. If readings cover different files or provider accounting rules, the difference is not a comparable trend.

What does zero or negative growth mean?

Those measurements do not imply a future quota crossing under a straight-line continuation. They do not guarantee storage will remain below quota; new uploads, backups, mail, logs, or other changes can alter usage.

Does the result tell me when a host will restrict the account?

No. It estimates only when entered usage would meet the entered quota. Check the account's current terms and ask the provider what its quota includes and what happens at the limit.
